Medieval Castles
European castles have many main features but there are also special ways how castles are constructed. There are many main features in a castle but they all have a purpose for being built.Medieval castles were built to withstand invaders and thieves from the town and other countries who wanted the land for their own. Castles back in the medieval era were either made out of wood or stone and were a great home for the King’s family, slaves, knights and lords. Medieval castles were made for protection and defense. Most castles were built on top of a hill or at the highest point, so if anyone tried to attack them they would be able to see them and kill them. Some parts of a castle involved the keep which was a storage place for food, barracks which were the homes of the knights and soldiers, the chapel which was used for religious services, a moat which is a ditch around the castle usually filled with water to keep out any invaders.
